There’s quite a few people doing interesting things associated with vinyl recently (hopefully we’d be included in that) one of which is Vnylst. Slipmats, record decks, clothing and more, all lovingly designed and constructed for vinyl lovers.

Purchase here and follow here and here.

Civilware is Geoff Rowley’s general store of sorts. Pulling together, clothing, coffee, sharp instruments and targets. Pretty much all you’ll ever need! Shop here.

“We are an online destination for exclusive products from the finest producers in the biz. Our philosophy is simple: When you ask for a person’s attention – their time, their money – you need to return that gesture with an unparalleled level of commitment.

We are fortunate to work with people who appreciate the significance of that responsibility. It is our duty to shine a light on these individuals, these processes and these ideals.”

Here’s the second part of my honeymoon pics from the end of August. Highlights in Amsterdam included a smoke and a pancake, a ridiculously good meal with beer to match at Dwars, the only record shop I’ve ever been to with a DJR 400 and F1 system (Rush Hour Records), the coffee at Headfirst, chilling in Vondelpark and a trip to the M C Escher museum in The Hague.

I got quite a few opportunities to sketch while travelling and relaxing while on holiday but one other important accompaniment to the 7 hour journey from Berlin to Amsterdam was Jazz Never Sleeps Truancy Mix Tape.

Myself and Mrs Airplays, spent two weeks at the end of August in Berlin and Amsterdam for our honeymoon. Both cities were awesome and I can’t wait to go back.

Highlights in Berlin were the ridiculous amount of graffiti, Fritz Kola, OYE record store, eating burgers served from an old public toilet under the U-Bahn tracks, and the angriest chicken at So So Angry (to be honest it wasn’t very angry for a serious curry eater but it was bloody good).

There were plenty of THC bombs around town but this billboard in our local station was particularly interesting. A series of four posters showing the process of making a dry stone wall (with the addition of a THC “tag”). The wall was actually made by another artist while in Tarset, North England, a town twinned with Berlin. It would be interesting to know what the people behind THC crew think about it.

Ashdown Workshop

Posted by Chris Airplays, 4th May 2013 10:54am

I’ve had my eye on Ashdown Workshop for a while now. They’re a father and son team who started their business in early 2012. All of their products are handmade in England from the finest materials. I’m now the proud owner of a premium bi-fold in black that my fiance bought me for our 10 year anniversary. The guys at Ashdown very kindly stamped the inside of the wallet to mark the occasion. My brother also owns one of their wallets and I can see we’ll be buying their products for years to come. Their customer service is second to none; the kind you’d expect from real people, making real products with heart and soul. Visit their website here and show your support.

The Lurkers

Posted by Chris Airplays, 24th April 2013 07:47am

I’ve followed The Lurkers tumblr for some time now and they’ve always struck me as a little bit different and completely original. Tight hand styles, great sense of style, quality photography and a real lust for exploration. It looks like a lot of fun. I’m expecting to see plenty more from the ones who “…put the lurk in so you don’t have to”. Check out their website for some great blog posts.

This guy is amazing, the inspiration for Todd Terje’s track Inspector Norse, Marius Solem Johansen makes his own drugs and loves dancing. Great cinematography too. Do watch!

A Guy Called Gerald Talks to Terry Farley

Terry Farley talks to A Guy Called Gerald ahead of him opening Voodoo Rays pizza shop in Dalston. I took the missus there the other day and I’d recommend it if you’re in the area.
